The building is Grade II Listed and was originally built as a Congregational Chapel in the early 19th century. The chapel was subsequently acquired by the Salvation Army organization in the last century and was used as a meeting hall. The building is constructed in Bargate stone with brick dressings. The front bay to the south elevation was added in the 1930s and is rendered with rendered quoins. The building was converted into a photographic studio with a office mezzanine at first floor level accessed by a new sculptural staircase.
