Bees Cottage is a Grade II listed building of timber frame construction with a local malmstone infill. The Cottage was built as two separate cottages as part of the Ashford Chace Estate; which were then subsequently merged after the splitting up of the Estate in 1959 to form a single cottage. It later fell into disrepair and was then used as a garden store. The building did not accommodate the needs of a growing family of five so additional space was required including improving links to the garden whilst enhancing the listed building. The proposed extensions are to the rear and side of the existing house and include the demolition of the cat slide element to the east of the original building which was a later addition. The design was carefully considered so that the extension does not detract from the existing cottage and enhances the building whilst providing the much needed accommodation. The two storey extension has limited headroom in some areas so the existing eaves lines could be maintained. An additional master bedroom was provided on the first floor and internally the spaces were reorganized including a new staircase and a large open plan family kitchen and living area.
